A Brief History of my Cat Art

Back during the pandemic and a bad bout of depression I began writing about, then drawing, and ultimately painting my cat, Her Majesty, just before she was taken from us in her 15th summer by a careless driver. As the world grew more and more complicated, her simple routines, and proud glamour inspired me. While it was clear she considered everything above and below the horizon hers, she only concerned herself with what lie in her immediate circle of influence. Such wisdom. After her death, I continued to use the many images of her I’ve collected as reference for drawings, prints, and paintings. This is what has now lead me to making portraits of other people’s pets. Below are some of the pieces I’ve made of Her Majesty from earlier to more recent.

This drawing was the first, and became the cover of my chapbook, Ninja Will Eat Me
I’m proud that this piece raised money in a silent auction to benefit Lambert House
This is just finished, and depicts Her Majesty dreaming of her beloved plush toy broccoli

Would you like a portrait of your cat? I’d love to paint it for you, here’s how 🙂
