I work from reference photos, so if you don’t already have a photo you particularly like, you’ll need to do that first, or if you’re local here in Seattle, I can do that by visiting your pet and taking some pics myself.
Good pics for reference photos are taken from the same level as your pet, down low. And the best lighting is mild, as in an overcast day, or at the golden hours of morning or afternoon when the sun is low and warm. Bright high noon light or a camera flash tend to make less good reference photos.
I work in acrylic paint, usually on canvas. Color is the aspect of painting I enjoy the most, and I think that shows in my playful style. I started painting my tuxedo cat, Her Majesty, after losing her, and that has inspired me to branch out to the other pets you see on this page, the kitties and doggos of many neighbors and friends, and friends of friends.
Most of the paintings you see on this page are either 11″x14″ or 16″ x 20″. Your commissioned painting in these sizes, unframed on canvas, will cost $400 or $500 respectively, the details of which can be discussed when we connect, and when I learn about your special pet.
